The Ontario Society of Artists Gallery

There is approximately 50 feet of available hanging space (see floor plan) with about 6 feet of height above a 34” high wainscoting, allowing space for approximately 18-20 medium sized works.

The hanging system consists of 20 movable rods suspended from a molding and 30 adjustable hooks.

See gallery space with hanging system.

There is a slide projector and screen in the room for those who wish to hold artist talks. There is also a computer hard disk and digital projector for showing images on CD.

It is suggested that those interested in exhibiting come down in person to see the actual space. Please contact us about available dates.

Information and Rules for the Gallery

Each group will be responsible for keeping safe a set of keys, and for locking both the office and the doors to the building when leaving, There is also a security system which must be set on and off.

If you wish to have an opening for your show, there is a kitchen adjacent to the office which you may use. If you wish to serve alcohol, you must have a permit. We share the building with other tenants, so you are responsible for making sure that the kitchen, any garbage, etc., is clean and put away, so that others can use it.

Exhibitors need to be at the gallery 10:00 am on the first Saturday of the month for take down and for hanging. It is suggested that each exhibitor bring one or 2 works more than you intend to show to allow for last minute flexibility to see how everything fits and looks when actually hung.

Hanging will be done under the supervision of a member of the gallery committee, Asher Sadeh, Jean Eng and Stefan Galvanek. Works must be secure and ready for hanging. We are not permitted to drill or nail into any of the room’s surfaces. Labels should not have strong adhesives.

The OSA has a number of sculpture stands in the basement of the building, and sculptors are welcome to use whatever is there. They will be responsible for moving them up to the gallery before the show and returning them at the close of the show.

You are encouraged to publicize your show, and there are a number of local newspapers which provide both advertising and editorial coverage of local exhibitions. A list will be available shortly.
